PRASARANA STAFF WEAR SARONG IN SUPPORT OF ‘KERETAPI SARONG’ TOMORROW
If you board the LRT or monorail tomorrow (Saturday, 25 February 2012) and see staff at the stations wearing sarong, do not be alarmed. Simply because, staff of RapidKL and KL Monorail are wearing sarongs in support of the much-publicised Keretapi Sarong event.“I sincerely think it is a very good idea … getting city folks to let their hair down and have fun. So, we are supporting the campaign and I am encouraging all my staff working that day to wear sarong to work,” said Dato’ Shahril Mokhtar, the Group Managing Director of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana), the umbrella company for RapidKL and KL StarRail – the operators of Klang Valley’s LRT and KL Monorail services respectively.
He added: “In fact, I am also encouraging those who are not working that day to join the fun as well … getting on the trains and converging with the other city folks at Pasar Seni on Saturday at 4pm. It should be interesting to see people in the ‘kain pelekat’ and ‘kain batik’ flocking the city for one day.
“It’s definitely something that could bring all Malaysians together and showing the true 1Malaysia spirit as it cuts the barriers of race, religion and age. So, it will be a true 1Malaysia gathering,” Shahril said.
Organised by a non-profit organization Random-Alphabets, the event carries a simple plan of Malaysians boarding the trains to come to Kuala Lumpur and gather at Pasar Seni this Saturday; wearing their sarongs and carries a personal message explaining what the sarong meant to them.
According to the organisers, who have made an open invitation to all Malaysian through the media, “every sarong has a story, what’s yours? is the catchphrase for ‘Sarong Keretapi’ and the event is aimed at encouraging people to communicate in a unique way.
“Based on feedbacks that I have seen in the media and heard on the radio, the event should be wooing a big crowd.
“My advice to all would be for them to use our MyRapid Card. It will allow smooth travelling on the two networks as compared to you using the tokens. Store up your cards early so that you will not need to queue at our ticket vending machines.
“With just one card, you can travel on all three lines … that’s the beauty of the AFC,” Shahril said in reference to the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) integrated ticketing system, which was launched in July last year and implemented in November to integrate the two Kelana Jaya and Ampang LRT lines.
Last Friday, the system was extended to KL Monorail; allowing the use of MyRapid Cards for both the LRT and Monorail network. Later this year, the usage of the card will be extended to cover the entire RapidKL bus network, which service more than 1,000 housing estates and 166 routes in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
